chrome vs. firefox on Flickr.
Via Flickr:
(On the left, Chrome, not respecting the color profile; on the right, Firefox, displaying Adobe 1998 color profile-or something to that effect.)
Suddenly, I remembered why I favored firefox over chrome, despite the fact that I had started to like the latter quite a bit. It was the dullness of the color of the photographs I was viewing online, mine included.
I assumed the problem lay with chrome because the colors in my photographs were more in line with what was being displayed on firefox when I viewed them on my macbook.
A friend mentioned that maybe it’s because I have to readjust my color profile on both my firefox browser and my monitor. (He has a color corrected monitor and the image looks exactly as the one on the left whether he uses firefox or chrome to view it as well as when he’s editing his work on Photoshop.)
After reading some more on the issue, it seems that Firefox/Safari actually display the proper profiles while Chrome ignores them completely, which seems to be a good reason not to use Chrome but it happens to be my friend’s reason to use it (and I find this confusing). I think the profile setting used by Chrome would be sRGB but there is still a slight but noticeable difference between what I see on Chrome vs what I see on Photoshop/Mac when I set them to this profile or to respect color profiles when it comes to Firefox.
(Also, he’s not on a Mac which may or may not have anything to do with all of this.)
I think I finally understand what’s going on. I think… =\
